“I learned a great deal during my three-month internship abroad at Corteco,” Saskia Kieser said. She studied industrial psychology, specializing in marketing, at the International School of Management in Frankfurt, Germany. These subject areas were the focus of the assignments that she handled at Corteco in the United Kingdom.

First, a brief explanation: Corteco is Freudenberg Sealing Technologies’ aftermarket specialist for the automotive sector. The Freudenberg subsidiary supplies both the retail market and service shops that are not affiliated with brands. It delivers original parts in original equipment quality, just as they are installed by automakers – primarily seals, vibration control technology and vehicle interior filters.

In one project during her stay abroad, Kieser was deeply immersed in the global market introduction of a sealing kit for power steering systems. During an early phase of her internship in Weinheim, she laid the foundation for her later work by becoming familiar with the company and learning the ins and outs of the project.

“I was able to take much of the theoretical knowledge that I gained in my studies and apply it to my work. Corteco’s marketing manager in the United Kingdom helped me use this knowledge in a goal-oriented way,” she said, adding: “I learned to work independently as well as on a team, and to support the team.”

Her work was made easier by flat hierarchies, helpful colleagues and a comfortable working atmosphere. She especially appreciated the international working environment. It included telephone conferences with co-workers in the U.S. to prepare for the company’s activities at a trade fair in Chicago, a visit to a trade fair in Amsterdam, and participation in a meeting of the global marketing team.

Besides diverse conceptual tasks, a wide range of practical activities added variety to her routine. She worked with a number of computer programs, drafted product data sheets, and translated technical papers and product videos from English into German and vice versa. “I was able to improve my knowledge of English and develop personally. I can only recommend an internship at Corteco,” she said.
