Sealing technology manual for the process industry - Test facility

The Freudenberg test facility offers new validation options for the perfect adjustment of seals to the respective CIP/SIP (Cleaning In Place/Sterilization In Place) process. CIP/SIP and superheated steam pro- cesses are an integral part of produc- tion in the process industry. Cleaning agents and heat put significant stress on the seals, which is a critical factor for smooth workflows if the seal was badly configured here with respect to material and design. Freudenberg’s test plant allows mean- ingful seal tests in all standard CIP/SIP media as well as in steam and hot wa- ter under real conditions. From the O-ring to the butterfly valve seal, veri- fied statements on the functionality of the seal used can thus be derived even prior to serial use. A proactive development partnership, which significantly increases the relia- bility and thus the cost effectiveness of valves and customer-specific systems. The system design The test plant is designed as a multi- tank CIP system and thus offers the possibility to demonstrate different cleaning processes with acids, alkaline solutions and disinfectants. The core of the system is formed by three test tracks in which three valves are tested in parallel or in series. The operating parameters such as temperature, pres- sure and flow rate are recorded digi- tally. For intentional contamination of the valves, a container can be filled with the medium used in the applica- tion. In order to create realistic test conditions, customizations to the fit- tings and assemblies can also be car- ried out easily. On this basis, meaning- ful test results can be obtained with respect to service life, resistance or necessary design optimization of a seal. This is valuable information in order to make the right decisions as early as during the conceptual sealing design of the system. MARKET-SPECIFIC SERVICES TEST FACILITY Introduction 8
