After it appeared for the first time at its new venue in Bonn last year, the event’s organizers came up with another sensation for 2018: The International VDI Transmission Congress became Dritev. The acronym stands for DRIvetrain Transmission Electrification in Vehicles. But don’t worry – only the name has changed. The conference itself relates seamlessly to the long tradition of the tried-and-tested Transmission Congress, the VDI has promised.

With the renaming, the supporting organization wants to take account of the transformation in the world of transmissions in the last 15 years, as it says on its website: “The more intense discussions on CO2, the growing electrification and the associated understanding of the transmission as a powertrain manager has sharpened the view of the entire drivetrain. As transmission developers, just focusing on the transmission and its interfaces with other subsystems would fall short. The challenge today: to see the transmission as part of the overall drivetrain and design the entire propulsion system with this view of the system in mind. It is a new challenge that requires cross-component, system know-how.”

This new thinking can also be found at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST).
