In a nutshell: Is there an overview of applications, materials, sealing and damping designs for humanoid robots applications?

There is now – because a picture is worth a thousand words. We have compiled all the information listed above into three diagrams. So, you can immediately see, which materials and designs are suitable for achieving optimum peak performance. Figure 1 shows a humanoid robot in which all areas requiring sealing and damping elements or sensor modules are marked in blue. The illustration extends from the head (sensor hub with cameras, LIDAR, IMU, calibrated proximity sensors, and radar) through the shoulder joints with actuators and the tactile elements in the hand area, all the way down to the rotational joints at the knees and the rubberized foot pedals. Figure 2 zooms in on the areas marked in blue.

The numbered circles in figure 1 are clickable and link to an overview on the following pages. The individual components are shown here along with their corresponding material classes. This overview is designed to help you find the right highly specialized sealing and damping solutions. For individual inquiries, you are welcome to contact the specialists at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, for example.

Robotic Systems Standards

Which standards and regulations are relevant for robotic systems?

Robotics systems are subject to many regional and globally interconnected guidelines and standards that relate to sealing and damping technologies. These define a comprehensive regulatory framework for the new development and operation of robotics applications. This means that development teams and integrators must continuously stay on the ball and follow legal requirements when they incorporate the latest technological advances into their designs. Here is an excerpt of the guidelines and standards that were current at the time this white paper was written. For the development of new robotics projects, we strongly recommend delving deeper into this topic.
